OriginTrail
First purpose built protocol for supply chains based on blockchain.
Wednesday, December 13, 2017
In today's world the ways in which our food is being grown, transferred and in other ways prepared and altered, is becoming more and more important. The team of Slovenian startup Prospeh wished to maximize the transparency of the origin of food products and thus developed their first product, OriginTrail, a system that enables the consumer easy access to that information. The next step in their development was a leap into the ICO field and offer the first purpose built protocol for supply chains based on blockchain.
Technology for a transparent ‘food trail’
The modern consumer faces a daily challenge of how to check the origin of the food product in their hands. The reason for this lies in the unavailability of data and the interest of many food enterprises that the chains and paths remain hidden. The team of Slovenian startup Prospeh wished to maximize the transparency of the origin of food products and thus developed OriginTrail, a system that will enable the consumer to have easy access to that information. In their beginning stages they received SK50 investment from the Slovenian Enterprise Found and were accepted in the Start:up Geek House Accelerator, while they successfully partnered with Slovenia’s highest quality premium poultry line producer, Perutnina Ptuj, and Eta’s, Slovenia’s largest pickled, frozen and fresh vegetables producer, high quality line Natureta. The App OriginTrail offers the customers the option of using a mobile or web app to access detailed information about the origin of the key ingredients.
Making waves in connecting ‘chains’
The next step in their development was a leap into the ICO field and offer the first purpose built protocol for supply chains based on blockchain. This past November they received the award Walmart Food Safety Inquiry Spark in Beijing. In addition, at the end of the year 2017, they were accepted in the first Walmart Food Innovation Program and Bits x Bites Acceleration Program in Shanghai. They recognised a unique solution that allows IT providers in supply chains to set up blockchain supported data sharing in multi-organizational environment. They can build transparency beyond the “one step down, one step up” traceability principle. The first version of the solution has been proved and is currently deployed in the food industry. The upcoming open source version will be suitable to any product supply chain such as automotive, consumer goods, pharmaceutical etc.
