On 15 and 16 November 2018 Technology park Ljubljana hosted the first international Conference on Startups and Transfer of Technology in Innovative Ecosystems in South-East Europe and Alpe-Adria region. On the first day of the conference, Jure Verhovnik, Initiative Start:up Slovenia and Venture Factory – University Incubator of University of Maribor, attended the round table discussion "Workshop on Start-ups and Technology Transfer in Innovation Ecosystems in South-East Europe and Alpine Region (EUSALP AG1)", which opened the topic of trends in the development of Startup ecosystems.

The round table debate evolved around creating the proper ecosystem in which startups could flourish. This includes legislative frameworks, government programs and the access to academic & research knowledge. For young companies, it is crucial to connect with potential investors and business partners. It is beneficial if the process of creating new companies includes well-established entrepreneurs who can share their knowledge and experience with startups, who are at the beginning at their entrepreneurial path. The conference participants learned about the Initiative Startup Slovenia, that was presented by Jure Verhovnik. He introduced good practice examples and results that expand across border into the Startup Alpe-Adria Ecosystem. Creating a healthy ecosystem in Slovenia and across boarder in Austria can be beneficial for both regions and can foster cross-regional collaboration and growth.
